Licensed Veterinary Technicians

Morgan Davis

Morgan Davis, Licensed Veterinary Technician

Morgan Davis joined the team at White Oak Animal Hospital in September 2016. She brings nine years of experience in neurology and emergency medicine to the hospital. As a licensed veterinary technician, she is responsible for assisting during surgery, drawing blood, performing lab work, patient care, and her favorite job, monitoring anesthesia. Morgan has an Associate degree in Veterinary Technology and is licensed in the state of Virginia.

"I enjoy working at White Oak Animal Hospital because I have the opportunity to learn from multiple doctors and veterinary technicians," Morgan says. She appreciates learning new things every day from all her co-workers.

At home, Morgan has a 5-year-old beagle named Rizla and an 8-month-old English Labrador retriever named Lady. She plans on breeding Lady in the future. In her free time, Morgan enjoys CrossFit, attending nutrition school, gardening and being around family.

Carly Dietrich

Carly Dietrich, Licensed Veterinary Technician

Licensed Veterinary Technician Carly Dietrich joined the medical team at White Oak Animal Hospital in August 2010. Her responsibilities include monitoring anesthesia, drawing blood, placing IVs and reading cytologies. Carly earned her Associate of Applied Science with a major in veterinary technology from Northern Virginia Community College and is licensed in the state of Virginia.

Carly has been in the animal-care field for six years as a veterinary technician, a veterinary assistant and as a kennel assistant. "White Oak Animal Hospital is where my animal career began," she says, "and it feels like home."

At home, Carly has two cats named Batman and Pebbles, three dogs named Lucy, Sullivan and Kiti; a rabbit named Maddie; and three hedgehogs named Olaf, Malificent and Cruella. In her free time, Carly enjoys walking trails with her dogs, traveling and watching Washington Capitals hockey.

Mari Doyle

Mari Doyle, Licensed Veterinary Technician

Licensed Veterinary Technician Mari Doyle joined White Oak Animal Hospital in 2014, and has over 14 years of experience in the animal-care field. As a veterinary technician, her responsibilities include placing IV catheters, drawing blood, monitoring anesthesia and reading cytologies. Her favorite part of the job is the feeling she gets when she's able to help save a patient's life. Mari has a teamwork mentality and a strong work ethic, which helps her treat patients new and old. She is licensed in the state of Virginia, and holds an Associate degree in Applied Sciences.

"The staff at White Oak Animal Hospital have an excellent sense of teamwork," Mari says. "My manager is flexible with my schedule to allows me to learn more about dog behavior."

At home, Mari has three Belgian Malinois dogs named Crash, Gru, and Moana, two German Shepherds named Phoenix and Saphira, a Chihuahua named Zoey and a Bengal cat named Bella. In her free time, she enjoys being the handler for her dogs in mondioring competition exercises, which focus on dog obedience, agility and protection. She also likes going to the movies, dancing and photography.

Tamara Riley Frantum

Tamara Riley Frantum, Licensed Veterinary Technician

Licensed Veterinary Technician Tamara Riley Frantum joined the animal-care team at White Oak Animal Hospital in 2011. She's worked in the animal field since 2004. Tamara's responsibilities include blood work, lab work, client education, surgery and radiology. She enjoys surgery and administering anesthesia the most out of her job responsbilities. With a background in teaching, Tamara is excellent at communicating and educating clients. She has associate degrees in applied science in veterinary technology and art history, and is licensed in the state of Virginia.

"Everyone at White Oak Animal Hospital is friendly, knowledgeable and wonderful," says Tamara. "They always put the pet's care first. We have modern technology to provide the best care possible for pets."

At home, Tamara has an African gray parrot and a terrier mix. She is a wedding officiant, and enjoys reading, gardening and riding motorcycles.

Amanda Goodrich

Amanda Goodrich, Licensed Veterinary Technician

Veterinary Technician Amanda Goodrich joined the staff at White Oak Animal Hospital in October 2004, and has worked in the veterinary field since 2000. At the hospital, Amanda's primary responsiblity is assisting the veterinarians as they treat patients. She enjoys helping patients feel better and is compassionate towards all animals and clients. Amanda has a degree from Penn Foster College and is licensed in the state of Virginia as a veterinary technician.

"The veterinarians are very good at helping me learn new things, like new products and procedures, that will help improve my skills as a tech," she says. "This started while I was in school and has continued after I graduated."

At home, Amanda has two dogs named Snickers and Beau; six cats named Kit Kat, Eight-Ball, Little Tyke, Scraggles, Sebastian and Lil Bits; a rabbit named Snow; nine love birds and five turtles. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, painting, making jewelry and reading.

Kathy

Kathy Kreissl, Licensed Veterinary Technician

Kathy Kreissl joined the medical team at White Oak Animal Hospital in 2004. She is a licensed veterinary technician who holds an Associate degree in Applied Sciences, Veterinary Technology. At the hospital, Kathy is responsible for laboratory testing, administering anesthesia, venipuncture, client education and radiology. Her favorite part of the job is working with pets and keeping them calm. Kathy has worked in the animal-care field since 1989.

"We provide quality veterinary care for our clients and pets," Kathy says. "Everyone truly cares about what we do."

At home, Kathy has a 3-year-old Siamese mix named Wellington. She also keeps goldfish and freshwater Angelfish. In her free time, Kathy enjoys being in nature where she can walk and garden. She also likes music, going to concerts and keeping her aquarium fish.

Melissa Wheeler

Melissa Wheeler, Licensed Veterinary Technician

Melissa Wheeler joined the team at White Oak Animal Hospital in May 2010. Prior to joining the hospital, she worked as a veterinary assistant and kennel assistant. Melissa is the hospital's anesthetist and radiologist, and says that her favorite part of the job is aiding in surgery and educating the hospital's client base. She is a licencsed veterinary technician, and holds a degree from Blue Ridge Community College.

"I like working here because I think we provide top-quality care to our patients," Melissa says. "We work as a team to provide that care."

At home, Melissa has a 2-year-old Doberman pinscher named Ziva, a 10-year-old Shih Tzu named Chloe, a 15-year-old Shih Tzu named Teddy and a new puppy named Zander. She also has a domestic shorthair named Mater, a Quarter Horse named Caesar and a Jersey cow named Sophie. In her free time, Melissa enjoys making cheese, quilting and spending time on her farm with her two children and husband.

Office Team

Ashley Rakes

Ashley Rakes, Office Manager

Office Manager Ashley Rakes began working at White Oak Animal Hospital in 1998, and has been in the animal-care field for 28 years. She's previously worked as a kennel assistant, a veterinary assistant, a technician and a receptionist. Ashley's job responsibilities include human resources, scheduling, conducting staff meetings, ordering inventory, handling IT issues and more. Her favorite part of the job is interacting with the staff and clients.

"I love our staff. They are like my family," she says. "I enjoy meeting our clients and helping them have a great experience at White Oak Animal Hospital."

Ashley has a Terrier mix named Dobby, a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix named Ali, a English Bulldog named Hulk, and a cat named Moonie. In her free time, she enjoys shopping, watching movies, dining out and spending time with her family.

Dog Trainers and Playtime Staff

Paula Thomas

Paula Thomas, Head Trainer, LVT, CPDT

Head Trainer Paula Thomas has been with White Oak Animal Hospital since 1999. Before implementing the hospital's training program, she worked as a licensced veterinary technician. As the head trainer at White Oak, Paula establishes training protocols, oversees trainers ensure appropriate techniques are being used, instructs classes and conducts behavioral consultations in hands-on dog training.

Paula has 33 years of experience working with dogs and horses. She says the best part of training is getting the opportunity to help clients with their dog's individual needs. Paula holds an Associate degree in Applied Science in Veterinary Technology, and is certified by the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers. She likes working at White Oak Animal Hospital because it's a "supportive, professional and fun place to be."

At home, Paula has nine American pit bull terriers, three cats, five horses, two goats, five rats and several chickens. She enjoys riding horses, playing with her dogs and spending time with her family.
