Licensed Veterinary Technicians

Carly Rogers

Carly Rogers, Licensed Veterinary Technician

Carly Rogers joined the medical team at White Oak Animal Hospital in August 2010. Her responsibilities include monitoring anesthesia, drawing blood, placing IV catheters and reading cytology. Her favorite part of the job is when she is able to help save a patient’s life. Carly earned her Associate of Applied Science with a major in Veterinary Technology from Northern Virginia Community College and is licensed in the state of Virginia.

Carly has been in the animal care field for eleven years as a veterinary technician, a veterinary assistant and as a kennel assistant. “White Oak Animal Hospital is where my animal career began,” she says, “and it feels like home.”

Carly’s favorite things include walking her dogs, watching Washington Capitals games, and spending time with her friends and family.

Mari Doyle

Mari Doyle, Licensed Veterinary Technician

Mari Doyle joined White Oak Animal Hospital in 2014, and has over 19 years of experience in the animal-care field. As a veterinary technician, her responsibilities included placing IV catheters, drawing blood, monitoring anesthesia and reading cytology. Her favorite part of the job is canine behavior, and maintaining a high standard of patient care. Mari has a teamwork mentality and a strong work ethic. She is licensed in the state of Virginia, and holds an Associate degree in Applied Sciences. She is also a professional dog trainer and has traveled the United States attending seminars, training and learning under some of the best dog trainers in the country.

“The staff at White Oak Animal Hospital have an excellent sense of teamwork,” Mari Says.

At home, Mari has three Belgian Malinois dogs named Gru, Crash and Moana. In her free time, she enjoys being the handler for her dogs in mondioring competitions, which focus on dog obedience, agility and protection. She also likes going to the movies, and spending time with her husband and family.

Amanda Goodrich

Amanda Goodrich, Licensed Veterinary Technician

Amanda Goodrich joined the staff at White Oak Animal Hospital in October 2004, and has worked in the veterinary field since 2000. At the hospital, Amanda's primary responsibility is assisting the veterinarians as they treat patients. She enjoys helping patients feel better and is compassionate towards all animals and clients. Her special interests are neonatal care and nutrition. Amanda has a degree from Penn Foster College and is licensed in the state of Virginia as a veterinary technician.

"I still get excited when an orphan animal comes in," she says. "I love to educate our clients on caring for newborns and helping them thrive."

At home, Amanda has seven cats named Kit Kat, Eight-Ball, Little Tyke, Dalton, Scraggles, Sebastian and Lil Bits - a special needs furbaby who is parazlyzed; two love birds, two russian tortoises; ten chickens, and a goldfish and koi pond. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, painting, making jewelry and reading.

Kathy

Kathy Kreissl, Licensed Veterinary Technician

Kathy Kreissl joined the medical team at White Oak Animal Hospital in 2004. She is a licensed veterinary technician who holds an Associate degree in Applied Sciences, Veterinary Technology. At the hospital, Kathy is responsible for laboratory testing, administering anesthesia, venipuncture, client education and radiology. Her favorite part of the job is working with pets and keeping them calm. Kathy has worked in the animal-care field since 1989.

"We provide quality veterinary care for our clients and pets," Kathy says. "Everyone truly cares about what we do."

At home, Kathy has a Siamese mix named Wellington. In her free time, Kathy enjoys being in nature where she can walk and garden. She also likes music, going to concerts and traveling to new destinations.

Margaret Jensen

Margaret Jensen, Veterinary Technician

Margaret Jensen is a full-time Certified Veterinary Technician here at White Oak Animal Hospital. She joined the team on June 29, 2020 and helps us provide amazing care to all of our patients! Margaret is responsible for patient care, laboratory operations, anesthetist, and hospitalization of patients. Some of her favorite parts of the job include assisting with geriatric and debilitated patients. Margaret has an AS in Veterinary Technology from Blue Ridge Community College where she graduated with honors in the class of 2020.

Before becoming a Certified Veterinary Technician, Margaret worked as a Veterinary Assistant from 08/2017-01/2020. She is now licensed as a Vet Tech through the VA board of Veterinary Medicine. She is also Fear Free Certified as of 03/2019 and is skilled at stress-free handling. We are so grateful for her unique experience in the veterinary care field, and we love her ability to empathize with clients and patients.

When asked why she loves working at White Oak Animal Hospital, Margaret says, "It's an incredibly positive and enjoyable place. The teamwork when you enter the building is amazing. I could not have found a better place to learn and grow in my career as a LVT."

At home, Margaret has a 2-year-old DSH feline named Layla Bean! Margaret likes to spend her free time painting, crocheting, reading, and discovering new teas!

Morgan Gist

Morgan Gist, Licensed Veterinary Technician

Morgan Gist joined White Oak Animal Hospital in September 2016. She brings 14 years of experience, including neurology and emergency medicine to the hospital. As a licensed veterinary technician, she is responsible for monitoring anesthesia, drawing blood, running lab work and patient care. Morgan’s veterinary areas of interest are pain control and reproduction.

“I enjoy working at White Oak Animal Hospital because of the team atmosphere and having many doctors and technicians to share ideas with,” Gist said.

At home, Morgan has an 10 year old beagle mix named Rizla and a 4 year old English Labrador name Lady. Morgan also holds a certificate from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and enjoys living a holistic life with her husband and daughter.

Chris Mack,

Chris Mack, Licensed Veterinary Technician

Licensed Veterinary Technician Chris Mack joined our team part-time in June of 2020. He is responsible for administering treatments, medications, vaccines, completing diagnostics, caring for hospitalized patients, placing bandages on wounds, phlebotomy, placing IVCs, anesthesia induction, monitoring, surgery, and client education. Chris is so happy to treat our wonderful patients and is truly proud when he is able to win over the more challenging patients. He loves being challenged by the variety of cases that come into the office.

Chris has an Associates degree in Applied Science of Veterinary Technology and he is licensed in the state of Virginia. He is also the only staff member with one leg! Chris has 20 years of experience working in the veterinary care field and has previously worked as a Receptionist, Assistant, and as a Technician for the past 18 years. Prior to his illness, Chris worked as a Director for the Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic in 2015.

One of Chris's favorite parts of his job is that he is able to work for such a wonderful family-owned business. The staff here truly has a family atmosphere and the quality of care is exceptional. Patients are always the top priority.

At home, Chris is the proud pet parent to his two cats, Cayden "Bug" and Simon, and he is currently looking to add a doberman puppy to the family! During his free time, Chris enjoys DIY home renovations, fishing, going to Redskin games, and going to car shows with his dad.

Office Team

Ashley Rakes

Ashley Rakes, Office Manager

Office Manager Ashley Rakes began working at White Oak Animal Hospital in 1998, and has been in the animal-care field for 28 years. She's previously worked as a kennel assistant, a veterinary assistant, a technician and a receptionist. Ashley's job responsibilities include human resources, scheduling, conducting staff meetings, ordering inventory, handling IT issues and more. Her favorite part of the job is interacting with the staff and clients.

"I love our staff. They are like my family," she says. "I enjoy meeting our clients and helping them have a great experience at White Oak Animal Hospital."

Ashley has a Terrier mix named Dobby, a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix named Ali, a English Bulldog named Hulk, and a cat named Moonie. In her free time, she enjoys shopping, watching movies, dining out and spending time with her family.

Dog Trainers and Playtime Staff

Paula Thomas

Paula Thomas, Head Trainer, LVT, CPDT

Head Trainer Paula Thomas has been with White Oak Animal Hospital since 1999. Before implementing the hospital's training program, she worked as a licensced veterinary technician. As the head trainer at White Oak, Paula establishes training protocols, oversees trainers ensure appropriate techniques are being used, instructs classes and conducts behavioral consultations in hands-on dog training.

Paula has 33 years of experience working with dogs and horses. She says the best part of training is getting the opportunity to help clients with their dog's individual needs. Paula holds an Associate degree in Applied Science in Veterinary Technology, and is certified by the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers. She likes working at White Oak Animal Hospital because it's a "supportive, professional and fun place to be."

At home, Paula has nine American pit bull terriers, three cats, five horses, two goats, five rats and several chickens. She enjoys riding horses, playing with her dogs and spending time with her family.
